Even though I’m a Londoner I’ve never actually been to see the Lord Mayor’s Show before. What a lovely atmosphere! Did you know (I didn’t) that the City of London’s Square Mile has guardians: Gog and Magog. And that the City police have different uniforms to the Met? And that the Lord Mayor’s Show dates back 800 years and is the oldest civic procession in the world. This year’s Lord Mayor is Alistair King, and the procession in which he presents himself to the people of London included 7000 participants: military groups, livery companies, and community groups and charities. And Ben, the 5 year old horse (in one of the pictures with William, his human) who was one of the beautiful horses pulling the golden carriage. A real honour to see and photograph it all up so close!
